Changing of the Guard

I hope Pat sees this from where he is...

I was looking at these pictures and realized that although it made me sad for a moment, this is how life is supposed to be, right?   The next generation taking care of their elders and watching over them as they were taken care of when young.

Patrick helping his Gramma up, Tyler and Connor looking as though posted as guards to watch over Gramma.   Big Pat would be happy.

These three grown boys spent so many days up on the hill in New Hampshire with Gramma letting them do whatever they wanted and Gramps being a little more strict - you must drink 8 glasses of water a day and listen to one hour of jazz or classical music a day - ha, yep, that's what it was like being there.     Nothing like cuddling up to Gramma or watching Gramps fiddling around with something or other.    Ice cream, spitballs, dancing, adventures...

But now they are grown and seems as though it's all going according to plan if there is a plan.

Just a thought I had.

  1. Xochi, thank you so much for putting up this blog.
My memories of Pat are vivid and exactly like your pictures. He was unique and very touchingly special.
I will always be indebted to him for making me wear bells
on my shoes when I first worked with him. He, and those bells changed my whole approach to my work and I never forgot him for that, and so much more. I wear those metaphoric bells each day in his honor. My warmest best wishes, David McGiffert

  2. Oh, this brings tears to my eyes. Remember the book Goodnight Mother which always makes me cry. But the truth is I am so fortunate to have family who love me and watch out for me. It is fun right now to be back in boston watching Brittany my granddaughter graduate from North Western with her degree as a nurse. She is beautiful and has worked so hard. Connor just was confirmed and looked so angelic in the church. Ha! And Tyler graduates from high school in June. Lots going on, time has passed so quickly. I feel so lucky to have bonded with all my grandkids and now be able to still be a part of their lives. Now I have some new grandkids from Pat's side of the family. They live in San Antonio and sort of far but I want to be sure to keep on knowing them. Patrick my oldest has even decorated my room. Life is very good. ginger
