Patrick R. Blymyer, my Dad

Patrick Blymyer
May 20, 1938 - January 5, 2009

Pat was one of a kind.  People say that about lots of folks but if you knew Pat, you'd agree that he beat any of those others on that phrase.

Pat loved life, he loved food, he loved to walk, he loved having a list, he loved to read, he loved to sit and watch the sunset, he loved his quiet times, he loved to help us see how happy life could be, help you to laugh at yourself, he loved to laugh.  He took care of people, especially the love of his life, Ginger.   he applauded all of our successes no matter how big or small, he was proud of his kids.   He knew how to make an entrance, he loved show biz, his stories were endless and always made you laugh.  He loved to dance, whistle and sing, sometimes the same tune over and over but it still made you smile.  He loved to wear shorts, winter, summer, anytime.  Making a meal was an event.  He taught us to make a sandwich the right way, he taught us how to iron, he taught us how to enjoy a walk, a piece of fruit, everything.   If you met him for only a moment or for a lifetime, you would remember him forever.

Pat was not someone you ever forgot.   He will be missed.

I will miss him.   He was my dad and my best friend.

  1. To The Memory of Pat,
I knew pat most of my life first meeting him when
I was in 4th grade. It was at my Uncle Terrys shack in Lennox Ca.It was when he was going to haul his family back to West Virgina I think. As a
kid I envied that, the way he and his family set out to the unknown and having the excuse my french THE BALLS to do that,I wanted to go too but I was just a kid. Later on in life when I got in the studio Biz.I was able to work with Pat
many times on some big movies.Pat made you a better Electrician.Pat loved my Uncle Terry and Im sure they have alot of catching up to do.Pat always wondered what Uncle Terry would have thought of Wrap music since he passed before it came out.Well Im sure there talkin about it now.Well Pat I will never forget you Hope your having the best bran muffin ever and enjoying your eternal walk Love ya Pat Ted

  2. Ted, that is the greatest memory. My mom keeps saying that Pat and Terry are finally back together again so I can just picture what you wrote, the two of them talking about what's been happening these days and all the great walks he's taken around the world. And you know he did find another great muffin in Mexico called the "morning glory" so he's probably finding a new one now too. Xochi

  4. Hello there Ted,
Thanks a lot, it's been fun to add these little tid bits of Pat for myself and for folks like you who knew him like I did for so long. And you knew those little things that would make him happy, easy to do.
Yes, sadly, I was in Mexico at Pat's service there when Kim's Memorial was here. I think Kim will blend well with your Uncle Terry and Pat!

Send me your email address and I'll send you all the information for Pat's Memorial - some of it's here but I've got more details I can send.

And please do add any stories that you think of, it's fun for me to read too. Love, Xochi

  6. hey there Xochi ted marshall here, I was reading your moms story I believe about the Day Of The Dolphin.Out of all the countless storys pat had shared in my presance,I believe out of all the films pat did The Day Of The Dolphin Storys out number all the other films 5to1.
They seemed to have a story for each day of that film.
Having known pat since I was a kid when I would work with pat I really wanted to do a good job for him.Getting an attaboy from pat was a little more hard to earn than working for other Gaffers. So when you did get one they meant alot. I always wanted to Please pat an wasnt succesful some of the time but pat had a way to get you moving and get the job done,he had a way to make you better.Pat made me better when I would work elsewhere.
Ill end with this funny Strange Days story,at wrap time every morning,I say morning because we did 85 nights in a row! but Scotty Keys job was to get pats white coupe de ville so pat could BURN RUBBER as soon as they said the majic word.So to be the knucklehead that he is (scott)when he would pull pats car up he would move the seat all the way foward, tilt the wheel all the way up turn the heater up full blast, and then he would have mexican music FULL BLAST so when pat would turn the key on all these things would be BLASTING.But since it was wrap time pat didnt care he was just happy to be BURNING RUBBER.We would all watch as he pulled away an you could see him trying to turn everything off as he left, pretty funny ttyl ted

  7. hi xochi just saw your sunday video nice, ya know mike weathers talked to pat every sunday
for years, when we did species II in baltimore
in 97 pat bought a new pair of nike shoes
within a couple of days about 10 people bought
the same ones. Then someone stole pats shoes at
lunch time and they took his orthotic inserts
with them.Pat was extremely upset about it.The
next day in Pat fashion there was a memo attached to the call sheet from Pat that whoever
took his shoes could gladly keep them no questions asked if they would just return his
orthotics. The memo was so Pat,he didnt get them
back though.Everyone stopped wearing the shoes
    in honor of Pats loss.

  8. ha, that's funny. I can hear him saying that. I can also hear him telling everyone how wonderful the shoes are which probably convinced the all to go get a pair! I love that everyone stopped wearing their shoes.
