Hard to Forget Someone Unforgettable. 10-26-14

Dear Pat,

There's a reason to think of you every single day.   But yesterday was a special day.   I attended the memorial of a man named Davyd.   He was the husband to a director, Norman,  I've worked with and his death was sudden.  And heartbreaking.   I only met him a couple times but I'm glad I did.  I will never remember everything that was talked about and read by his friends and family yesterday but I will now always remember Davyd and I will always remember the feeling  I had sitting in that theater listening.    He was described as a person who loved life, who always was a bright light wherever he went.    He moved to the beat of his own drummer, he cared for the underdogs.   He was an artist and painted in beautiful colors, bright colors.

Not long ago, he asked his friend "Why are people so mean to each other?"    That hit home with everyone in that room.   It's not hard to be kind.    But sometimes people forget.    And they forget to talk to each other.   He was kind.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that. Someone who made a difference to a lot of people and to a lot of people he didn't even know.

That reminded me of you.  You did that too.  I am working with someone who just realized that I was your daughter.   He worked with you on Rush Hour 2.    He told me a story about you being so excited to go home and have your baked potato so you could have wonderful dreams.   He said you said it with such joy and enthusiasm that he looked forward to hearing more.    How many years ago was that?   He remembered this simple thing.  He remembered you because of the way you told the story and how much joy it brought you to just have a baked potato.

You are never forgotten.    Because of the way you made people feel.

I love you lots,

Xochi

  1. Kindness came naturally in our family. I guess it started with my mother, who taught me to care for those who were not so popular. My sister said I was very kind to her when I was seventeen and most teenagers didn't want their sisters around. I want to be treated kindly and so perhaps in a selfish way I treat others because I know we reap what we sow. I never met Davyd, but I do get what he was saying about why can't people be kind. But it is up to each and everyone one of us to remember what he said and just be kind. It feels so good.
